Gold vs Silver Jewellery

February 18, 2021

The choice between gold and silver jewellery has always been a tricky one. Its an unspoken fashion rule that the two shouldn’t be mixed therefore to be efficient most of us tend to make a choice and commit. Being able to have a selection of rings, necklaces and earrings that all match is the dream.

For years I was a silver girl purely because its cheaper but after I got my ears piecered (at the ripe old age of 21) I found it tricky as all my earings ended up being gold clashing with silver rings. Leadingme to now be torn between the two.

Gold

I only started buying gold pieces since I had my ears pierced but now I can’t stop. The main issue is the price points but gold is more expensive for a reason – a plain shirt and jeans look with gold jeans looks so much more expensive. Gold pieces can be a lot more understated and yet they elevate anything. The main problem I will always come back to with gold jewellery is the price, you can’t really cut corners and get costume jewellery to look gold because after one use it will fade and become a greeny colour – but when you do get that one special piece on birthdays it is worth every penny.

Silver

Silver Pieces mentioned – Beaded necklace – Made by Frankie | Star Necklace – Inhabit | Rings all random from various independent shops and markets.

As mentioned I’ve always been more drawn to silver, it is so much more accessible to buy higher quality sterling silver. As a teenager I’d pick up real silver rings in various vintage shops with friends and build a collection of colourful silver rings – silver is so easy to layer up, clash pieces together and just have fun with it for everyday wear.

I am now at a point where I don’t think I am either a silver or a gold jewellery gal – some days you need silver (if your outfit has silver metallic tones, or silver hardware or boots or jackets) or a more understand classic outfit you want to reach for the gold. I much prefer buying silver rings but prefer gold earnings and there is a huge imbalance in my collection which makes pairing certain pieces together tricky. God forbid anyone every proposes to me because I couldn’t possible decided between gold or silver bands to wear every single day because I love you both equally for different reasons?

Let me know if you are a silver or gold jewellery gal because I know most people do sway towards one or the other. Love Charlotte xxx
