Hey guys, no one thought the biggest accessory this season would be a reusable facemask but here we are. Face masks are a must no matter where you are going. If like me and you are only wearing a mask max 1 hour in shops or on the train rather than in work at hospitals then a reusable mask is the best option. If you do prefer disposable face masks, it’s important to dispose of them probably. Every single time I’ve left the house since lockdown I’ve seen disposable masks on the ground on every street.
I try to avoid anything disposable or single-use where I can. There is some terrifying research coming out around the dangers of disposable face masks. Some reports (read more here) are suggesting that there is now ‘more masks than jellyfish’ in the ocean which is just heartbreaking. We put the climate crisis on hold for the pandemic which has led to a huge increase in plastic waste. So for me, reusable face masks are a must.
Back in March when we first went into lockdown there wasn’t much choice when it came to stylish face masks but as the summer went on we were inundated with choice. I’ve built up quite a collection of reusable face masks it was time to share them with you.
The first pair I got were from Jade on Instagram. She had about 6 fabrics to choose from. I choose two on the complete opposite scale. A beautiful floral print in my favourite shade of blue and a leopard print. They cover the nose well, fit me so well and the straps are covered to make them super comfortable.
Over the last 2//3 months since masks have been mandatory my must-have has been my pouch. I have been taking this blue velvet one from Pink Lemon boutique (previous PR product) with me every day in my bag. It fits 2/3 reusable face masks in perfectly which makes it so much easier to keep them organised in my bag and I’m yet to accidentally drop on when swapping over.
Another thing I have enjoyed about face mask shopping is being on a budget, being able to get something from a brand I’ve loved and lusted over for a while. By Megan Crosby is a brand I’ve loved for ages now, a one-woman sustainable fashion house (read more here). I jumped at the chance to get something from the brand when Megan launched these. There’s two fabric ways the Leah and Annie. Both fabrics are a huge part of the range, designed by Megan on digitally printed organic fabrics. The Leah and Annie dresses would look so cool coordinated with the masks. I love the shape of these masks as they cover the nose perfectly and are so well fitted. The gingham print is my go-to.
My final mask purchase is from Sands Cornwall boutique – they have loads of cute designs in store and I grabbed this one day as I was still waiting for the above two to be made and sent. Zebra print is probably my favourite print and while it’s quite a statement it goes with most of my outfits so well.
