Hey guys, I’ve been talking a lot more about sustainable fashion over the last year but never really know where to start. However over the last few months I’ve slowly discovered an array of amazing sustainable brands mainly through Instagram so have collated one big list that we can all come back to if there is something in particular you are looking for.
There are a lot of assumptions around slow fashion or sustainable fashion such as it will be more expensive than fast fashion, it will only be basics not trend led, the colour palette will be beige and neutrals the list goes on. However these brands really break that stereotype there is a brand on this list for every price range, size and style.
I’ve tried to include a mix of Uk, Worldwide and of course there is a lot of Cornish brands mixed in as always. If you’d rather find all these brands on Social easily head to my instagram post here for all their handles.
What I found most daunting about slow fashion is trying to decipher between the fast fashion brands that claim they are sustainable and true sustainability. Well most of these brands have or at least started out with one girl designing and making bespoke pieces from cut off fabrics and sewing everything by hand. – You really can’t get more sustainable than that. The pieces aren’t going to be as cheap as Primark or New Look but on average I’d say the prices points aren’t much different to the likes of & Other stories.
This list similarly focuses on small businesses with all items handmade from waste materials usually by one person or a small team but this time its all about the accessories – handbags, jewelley and more.
This list is the slightly bigger high street brands that we can trust more than the rest.
The final list I’ve compiled for you is a few of my favourite vintage brands. Shopping second hand in any form is ultimatly the most sustainble option and these guys are the best and currating through to showcase the most beautiful vintage collections you’ll ever see.
One final recommendation that doesn’t fit into any of the above categories is Lost Stock. Lost stock is an amazing new way to dive into sustainable fashion for all of us high street lovers. They are taking all the unwanted stock from high street brands such as Topshop, Gap and New Look. During the Covid-19 pandemic these brands have cancelled orders with factorises but the clothes had already been made so without lost stock the factory workers wouldn’t get paid and the clothes will end up in landfill. You pay £35, fill out a form about your size, style choices and in few weeks a box of brand new high street pieces. I think its such an amazing initiative and I can’t wait for mine to arrive.
