Hey guys, a few weekends ago Mike and I went to Bristol for 2 days. I hadn’t left Cornwall (or Devon) since Feburary and I was so so excited to be in a city. Bristol has always held a special place in my heart, I was born there too. So the chance to spend a few days being a toruist in my favourite place was needed.
We spent two nights at Brooks guesthouse. I highly recommend this guesthouse so much mainly for the location. Brooks guesthouse is in the perfect central location situated in the ‘Old City’ next to the famous St.Nicolas Market on Corn street (which is full of restaurants from Pho to Slug&Lettuce). From one side it’s just a short walk to the shopping centres and 5 mins in the other direction to the harbour and Park Street.
Christmas Steps – First head to the Christmas steps which is the cutest narrow staiyway filled with cute independat bussinesses.
Park Street – Park street is full of restaurants, bars and vintage shops. At the top of the street (a steep hill), you will see the university tower, Bristol Museum and just some beautiful architecture.
Cabot Tower – we then headed from Park Street across to Brandon hill / Cabot Tower which is the most beautiful park with skyline views across the city. If you were a fan of skins growing up you can sit on Cassie’s bench. Cabot tower is a favourite of mine, in normal circumstance you can go inside and pop out on the balcony to get an even better view.
Clifton Suspension Bridge – Clifton Suspension bridge is arguably the most famous landmark in Bristol, arguably also one of the best pieces of British engineering. I must have been as a child but couldn’t remember. The scale of the bridge was unbelievable albeit I did find it terrifying walking across. I had also forgotten just how fabulous Clifton village is. I highly recommend a wonder in Clifton arcade for wonderful independent shopping and you must visit Anna Bakery for the best cakes, I got a red velvet cookie and a chocolate and peanut butter slice.
M Shed– We we in Bristol during a pandemic on a monday so my plan to visit the museum, Arnolfini art gallery or M shed musem did not work. Instead we still walked to the M Shed and along the water to see the SS. Great Britain. It wokred out for the best and now I have a reason to go back asap to drag Michael round art galleries and museums.
To end our jam-packed day full of essentially walking (oh I got my steps in today) we got some dinner and cocktails by the water at Spitfire BBQ. I even managed to head to Cabot Circus for some shopping after dinner as the shops are open until 8pm.
