Farewell 2013

Hey guys,
So another year over.....AND A NEW ONE JUST BEGUN now before I break out into Christmas karaoke... 2013 is ready to bid us farewell so I'm going to share with you my highlights of this year in a slightly cheesy fashion! Hooray!!!

So in many ways 2013 has been the biggest year of my life!! Mainly in terms of growing up! I'm not going to just go through the months in order talking about what happened well because that would be the obvious thing to do haha. So I'm gonna start with the fact I turned 16 this year! Everyone growing up has that age where they think that age means they will be all grown up for me that is 16! With that in mind turning 16 was a bit disappointing haha!
This year was also the year of first when it comes to love, this year on Valentines I was asked on a date by the guy who I now proudly call my boyfriend. This was my first ever date (excluding a trip to the cinema with a guy and his mum in year 6...cringe), my first Valentine, my first proper kiss aside from truth or dare and even my first proper relationship I have had previous "boyfriends" but not a relationship! A few other firsts include first cigarette (and my only),  I want to say first time getting drunk but we all know that happened before ;D
2013 was also the year I took my GCSEs, your whole childhood these are "scary exams that my older cousin is taking but I won't have to for years" but of course those years flew by and here I was spending my weekends locked in my room "revising". I passed most of them then in the summer hooray! I made a rational decision not to stay on at my school to study my A levels but to go to college, so that meant I left all my high school friends behind and started college on my own. Which apart from losing touch with my friends and seeing my boyfriend a lot less I am so glad I decided to change to college :)
Also in the summer my family moved, I was the only one not happy about this at all we moved for personal reasons but I just didn't want to leave my childhood home, the home I grew up in. However I am well and truly settled in the new home! :)
In the Autumn I then started to make a small name for myself my grandad called me an "entrepreneur" haha I am exaggerating really but I now am a regular babysitter for a few family's, I clean for various people regular then most excitingly and one of my biggest achievements of the year... after applying for over 30 jobs I finally had an interview and managed to somehow get myself a small weekend job for the christmas season in retail so I managed start earning proper money and I got some much needed experience! This job also meant I had to open a bank account which is also all very exciting!
The final big thing that happened this year was this blog! :) it all happened very suddenly and it was very rushed. I will need to take a step back at one point in the near future and sort my blog design,  learn how to edit etc! But so far I am enjoying it, having somewhere to write reviews and my thoughts on anything from the seasons to ridiculously priced clothes haha! I am taking part in the #2014bloggerchallenge and have made a few friends and I am already proud of my followers and page views so the future for A Fashion Oddity is looking bright!

So thank you to everyone reading this and everyone who has helped make 2013 one of the best years of my life (you know who you are)
Happy new year and best wishes to you all!

P.s. let me know in the comments what 2013 brought to you! X

My Christmas Goodies #2013

Hey guys sorry its been a while since I last did a proper post but here I am just after Christmas,  I hope you all had an amazing Christmas!  I know what you are thinking this is a Christmas haul to show off but I am honestly not I just am so happy and excited about everything I had I couldn't wait to share it all with you guys! :)
I had this wonderful brush set from E.L.F which I can't wait to start using daily, I finally have a proper make up make up brush set I didn't actually ask for one but I am sooo so happy with h set with some decent tools  hoary for me! :)

Also from E.L.F in my stocking I had one of their single eyeshadows in the colour "Amethyst" and a double ended eyeliner and shadow stick in purple! (I do have a  E.L.F haul and review of the Cardiff store coming soon so watch this space)

Now all these DVDs and CDs were on my list so I was hoping I would get these! :D

Now this next load of DVDs my dad picked up for me when our
local blockbuster was closing down recently :( I am very chuffed with the glee boxset and New years eve! :D

How cute are these slippers man?

A pretty little floral owl cushion from my boyfriends mum, beautiful mirror, floral travel mug and Cath Kidson Rose scented draw liners!

More stocking fillers, Santa lip scrub from lush (also a lush review coming soon) , the prettiest socks i have ever seen, Ted Baker lip gloss and nail varnish set in Lovely Lindy hop, Biscuit top trumps, Fearne mirror, notebook, Tissues and a little scented stamp cushion to hang on a handle on my drawer!

A candle in a teacup, an ice cream candle, my first yankee candle in Snowflake Cookie and a little pink candle! Also one of my main presents from my parents the vera wang lovestruck perfume!

I finally got hold of It by Alexa Chung and Billy and Me by Gi Fletcher but more importantly PETER PAN a beautiful hardback penguin copy! Yayaya! My other half and his family understand how much i have been wanting this book! I asked near enough every Bookshop owner in Hay if they hand a copy of Peter Pan in store couldn't find it anywhere! My oh my thank you santa! I also had ? Dear Fashion Diary" which I hadn't heard of before but its amazing, it may be aimed at  younger girls but its brilliant its like a fashion lovers version on the Wreck this journal craze! I will talk more on this amazing book another time!

Finally this present I was not expecting from my grandparents but ever since I read the amazing Tanya Burr's post on homemade soup I wanted to get my self a hand blender!

I haven't included any clothing in this post because photos of them on my bed would not have done them justice so keep your eyes peeled for a few outfit posts with my new clothes! :)

So apart from one cushion, some joke presents such a Wallace and Gromit shaped pasta from my awesome uncle and of course lots and lots of chocolates that's what I had for christmas this year! I am soo so happy with everything and I hope you all had a great christmas and let me in the comments some off the stuff you had!

I'm a Beauty Blogger get me out of here - Part 3

Considering the show ended on Sunday I'm sorry I have been so late with this!

I voted for David being a royak weksh fashion designer I just had to and henwas so fabulous but I'm also soo glad Kian won mainly because I'm in love with him! His wife is a very lucky lady!!!
Anyway on with the tag! :)
1) Big congratulations! You won last week’s bush tucker trial. Your reward is the chance to create your own perfume. What ingredients/scents would you  use? I would defo make a fruity scent, mainly involving berries!

2) Around the camp fire you’re all sharing tips. What is the best advice you can give someone to keep your skin healthy? WATER! Drink lots of water.

3) How do you think your camp mates would describe you? Bubbly and friendly!

4) You’re missing your family and friends so to bring a bit of comfort to the jungle you are given the opportunity to send one twitter message (max 140 characters). Who would you text and what would you say? Probably my mum and I'd say something like.. I hope everyone is well, I'm doing just fine I'll see you all soon love you!

5) You’ve made it to the final two and are awarded the classic three course meal. What would you choose for starter, main and dessert? Hmmm for starter I'd have a chicken selection with chicken bites, wings etc and a BBQ dip, for main I don't know maybe BBQ pulled pork and jack cheese wraps and desert defo a black forest cake!

6) You’re out of the jungle and the luxury hotel awaits! What will be the first thing you will do? Have a hug from my family and eat!

7) Now you’re out of the jungle and have all your luxuries back, what would be one product you have lived without and could continue to live without? Hand sanitizer hopefully I will have learnt that getting germs is okay!

8) Challenge – you have the choice of setting the challenge. What is your challenge and to whom? I'd give Amy an eating challenge purely because I kinda think she deserves it! Sorry and Amy fans out there!
So there I finally completed this tag! Thanks to Rochelle and Natasha for making his tag and I hope you've all enjoyed reading my answers,  thanks! :)

Why I still shop in the children's departments (sometimes)!

Hey girlies,
I have never stopped shopping in the children's departments. I am an average height, size 8 16 year old so granted this post wont apply to everyone. Either way the children's departments are always cheaper and often the clothes are soo similar to the woman's wear I always like to have a little check as to what I can get for my money.
Here are some of my favourite pieces in my wardrobe from a children's department:

(From Next ) This jumper was actually a dress but I prefer to wear it as a jumper. It is then very baggy and comfy. The star pattern could also be pulled of as a subtle Christmas jumper ;D

(Also from Next. Front)

This dress from H&M is probably one of my favourite dresses. It looks amazing with a blazer and heels for a meal or on holiday. The colours are so bright without being too tropical and the pattern is floral without being too girlie which is perfect for me.

(Ted Baker )

(From Zara girls) I wear these jeans soo much. They are so comfy and stylish. There is a biker feel to them with the detailing on the knee and there is a zip on the ankles.

(From H&M) I adore this tartan tutu is so different and on trend this season.

(From Next) Once again this is such a unique denim skirt. It has a tulip shape to it and such a beautiful floral pattern.
I strongly recommend Zara girls however they only go up to a size 14+ but this is very generous, as you cans see the above jeans still fit me perfectly. My second recommendation is Next so much of there collection is always on trend and follows very well in line with the adults, in store they only go up to age 14 but online its age 16.
Let me know in the comments if you still have any clothes from a children's collection or anything?

I'm a beauty blogger get me out of here! Week 2!

Hey guys,

I'm a litlle bit late for week 2 but here it is anyway!  :)

Week 2 – Lets continue

2) It’s time to wash – ok so it’s not in a luxury shower or a bath but you do get a choice of one soap/shower gel to use. What would you choose and why? Lush's honey i washed the kids soap and a ted baker body wash!
3) Today is the arrival of a new camp mate, yay! You get to decide, it can be anyone this time. Who will you choose and why? Still Taylor Swift haha
 4) It can get a little boring in the jungle and you’re feeling sluggish. What one fitness exercise would you do? I woudnt but probably sit ups!
5) How would you create your own jungle fashion style? Definitely bandanas!
 6) What is your favourite Australian product and why? I dont know any, are burts bees australian?
7) Good news, the camp has won the treasure chest hunt! In need of something sweet, each camp mate wins their own cupcake. What would yours be? Red velvet
 8) Challenge – bush tucker trial number 2, ‘the jungle hair & beauty salon’. You’re sitting under a vintage hair dryer and instead of hot air being blasted out you are greeted by 10,000 creepy crawlies. Which creepy crawlies would you detest the most and which ones wouldn’t you mind? Hmm I'm not massively scared of any but then I don't like any so I don't know!

I'm a Beauty Blogger, Get Me Out Of Here!

Week 1: I’m A Beauty Blogger, Get Me Out Of Here!

Hey guys,

Last night in the U.K the new series of "I'm a celebrity,  get me out of here!" Started!  In honour of the new series my friends at  made this tag, which I was tagged in. There will be three parts of the tag one each week until the final of the show so I'm looking forward to taking part! :)

Week 1 – So heres my answers!  :)

1) You can only take ONE product into the jungle (aka your luxury item). What would you choose and why?
2) What would be your main pre jungle worry?
3) You only have five minutes to get ready before going into the jungle, what would be your quick beauty routine?
4) Last year we saw Helen Flanagan wearing her hair in a top bun. What would be your signature hairstyle?
5) For moral support, which female celebrity would you like to be in the jungle with you?
6) Everyone’s given a role in the camp. What lifestyle skill would you bring to the jungle?
7) What one thing about being a beauty blogger sometimes makes you want to scream ‘Get Me Out Of Here’?
8) Challenge – This is a once in a life time opportunity. You’re up for a trial to face your fears or try something new, what would you choose to do and why?

1) Well the idea of being on TV for three weeks without make up freaks me out so I do want a foundation, however its Australia at the start of their summer and I have very pale skin so a sun cream would be best so to bring these items togheter I would take a tinted moisturiser with a SPF.
2) My main pre jungle worry would be living with complete strangers and being filmed 24/7
3) 5 minutes,  I have that much time anyway in the morning so quick foundation lightly brushed on, pressed poweder, grey eyeshadows, eyeliner, mascara and lip balm!
4) My hairstyle would be a messy bun because in the heat I have to have my hair swept back!
5) I would like Taylor Swift to join me for moral support!
6) My role in camp would be the supporter, I'd listen to everyone's problems and hopefully try and keep everyone calm and friendly!
7) The one thing about being a beauty blogger the makes me want to scream "Get Me Out Of Here" is time, trying to be organised with my blog on top of my priorities currently like my A Levels!

8) I wouldn't face my fears through choice so I defiantly would choose the cyclone challenge!

I tag

Bargin of the week!

Hey guys!

I have officialy started my Christmas shopping! However to buy for everyone on my pocket money alone is though especially as a student so I am on the lookout for as many offers as possible over the nexr few months and I will share these with you (and my blog isn't a bargin thrifty blog but I am a student who is constantly broke and I am fed up of bloggers just taking about high end make up and unaffordable products)

Anyone for my first bargin of the week is from WhSmith!
In their gift range they have a new owl range called 'bramble wood'  with things like mugs and notebooks! This is perfect because I know so many people who are obsessed with owls right now.
I am not sure how long this offer will be available for but I first saw it this Saturday if that helps, so I'd recommed you get down their quickly!
So in this owl range they have a medium sized owl teddy. He has a bright and fun print. In bright purple and orange I love the colours.
This teddy is usually priced at £7.99 but at the moment its only £3.99 with any other gift purchase!  Bargin!!
A lot of their gifts are around £4 so you could get two presents for £7.99 the pice of the owl teddy normally!  So I really recommend this offer! :D

P.s please follow my twitter acount for this blog @afashionoddity and feel free to tweet me! Would be much appreciated! You can also follow the blog on bloglovin at 'A fashion oddity' :) <3

Layered Winter outfit 1: 7.11.2013 OOTD

Hey guys, I thought I' d do my first outfit of the day post and I will also do a few posts over the next few weeks about layer up to keep warm in the cold winter but still looking  little stylish! (This is something that with the quality of clothes on the high street is very useful because nothing keeps me warm)

Anyway in today's outfit I have three layers on then my coat and my scarf whilst I was out! The first is a plain white vest top, then my black denim shirt topped with a black and purple block knitted jumper!

So many people say to me wearing a knitted jumper is fine and question why I am still cold but most high street stores the knitted jumpers are pretty thin (the same as a normal t shirt) the only difference is the material,  this is why I need to layer!

Teamed with the spike necklace and my biker boats I thoughts the dark colours looked amazing and I maneged to stay so warm and cozy all day but I was still confident in my outfit! :)

Shirt: new look sale in January
Jumper:Internationale in march
Necklace: New look sale last month!

Hope you enjoyed this kinda of post let me know if its been at all usefull! :)

P.s watcha think of the Miley style buns haha? X

P.S.S excuse them poorquality and range of photos once again x

Top Tip Tuesday: DIY tinted moisturiser

Hey guys,
After my top tip post last week on how to make your own gel eyeliner (read it here) I thought I would start a new series called "top tip Tuesday" full of different simple tips these maybe DIYs or discounts I want to share with you or anything! Let me know in the comments if there is anything you think I could include in this series.

So this weeks top tip is another DIY.
I recently discovered a brilliant easy way to make your own tinted moisturiser.
All you need is:
  • a old pot or tub
  • a teaspoon
  • a moisturiser
  • and a pressed powder foundation

I decided to us my old Clinique moisturiser because I had loads left so only used half for a tinted moisturiser and I still have some left. I love this moisturiser because it feels so natural and it is SPF 15 which is always re- assuring.
I am using the collection 2000 pressed powder because it is too light  and doesn't work with my foundation very well anymore but apart from that I love it, I find it really easy to blend.

I had just run of my trusty carmex so I decided to us out my carmex lip balm pot and use this. Plus carmex pots are so handbag friendly that its perfect for a small pot of tinted moisturiser.
First thing you must do using the top end of the teaspoon (the handle) carefully break up the pressed powder into very very VERY lose pigments.
Then using the spoon you must spoon out some of the moisturiser into your empty and clean pot , just spoon until the pot is not quite full.
Next you pour or spoon the broken up powder into you new moisturiser pot and mix and stir until all of the tiny grains of foundation are gone.
You are now ready to use your new tinted moisturiser! This is so easy and effective! let me know in the comments if you try this and what you think! m

2 Eyeshadows, 2 looks!

Hey guys,

for this looks I am using two eye shadows colours and basic black and white! The white I am using is a light shimmer but you can use any shade, mine are from an old "cute or what" palate from Boots (a big drugstore in the U.K)

The first look is very heavy , more for a night out. The black eye shadow would be applied very thickly and in the same motion as eyeliner when do a large upwards flick, then the white is just applied in the inner corner and upwards. I would accompany this look with a berry or more purple lipstick and heavy lashes!

This second look (apologies for the blurry photo) is more of a simple look perfect for everyday if you love focus on the eye. It is effectively a softer shadow look. For this I simply applied the black shadow just along the lash line then the white is once again applied for the inner corner but this time also along the crease line. Lastly blend the black and white together. I would accompany this look with a nude lip-gloss or just a lip balm to keep it soft and simple.
Hope you enjoyed this kind of post, let me know in the comments

Autumn in my town!

Hey guys,

I live in a little welsh town called Caerphilly, most famous for Caerphilly castle , the cheese and Tommy Copper!

I have been loving to golden leaves falling around the castle so I took so photos! Also every year the council put on a massive fireworks display in the castle, this year I attend the event with my other half so I will share with you some of these pictures.

I find the change in seasons makes everything look so pretty and really makes you appreciate where you live! How is autumn affecting your town?
